Beyond our core program, Ronald McDonald House Curaçao has developed local initiatives and services designed to address the unique challenges faced by families with seriously ill children in our hospital. These services include the Hospitality Cart, the Medical Treatment Abroad Support, Our Meals Program and the Family Centered Support Services provided in the Family Room. Each were created to fill a gap, ease a burden, and ensure no family feels alone in their journey.
Offering financial support to families of children that need special medical care abroad.
When a child’s treatment requires travel abroad, the emotional and financial weight on a family can become overwhelming. Since 2017, our partnership with KLM has allowed us to reach even more families in need, helping 22 families from Curaçao whose children required emergency specialized treatment in the Netherlands.
For families facing childhood cancer, the journey is especially demanding. In alliance with the Prinses Wilhelmina Fund, Ronald McDonald House Curaçao has established a dedicated Childhood Cancer Fund to help cover travel and accommodation costs for parents and caregivers who must accompany their child abroad for specialized treatment.
Over the past 12 years, the Medical Treatment Abroad Program has supported more than 60 children and families from Curaçao, ensuring that distance and financial hardship never stand between a child and the care they need.
For parents who cannot bring themselves to leave their child’s bedside, our Hospitality Cart comes to them. Designed with extra love, and beautifully decorated with the iconic Punda skyline and beloved local characters of Curaçao, our cart is unlike anything you’d find in a typical hospital setting.
Our meals initiative aims to alleviate the burden for families with seriously ill children admitted in the pediatric department of the Curacao Medical Center or prematurely born babies admitted at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
In our Family Room we provide 2 meal occasions a day. Daily breakfast and a hot nutritional lunch is served to our families
Sourcing meals while caring for seriously ill children in the hospital is both expensive and stressful. Parents often skip meals and forget to take care of themselves so they can better care for their sick children. The Meals program offers a balanced breakfast and lunch daily.
