RMHC and CMC put Compassion at the heart of healing

Willemstad, Curaçao – When a child is hospitalized, the entire family enters a world of uncertainty. That reality inspired more than 125 healthcare professionals, parents, and volunteers to gather on Saturday, October 25, for the 7th annual Family-Centered Care Conference hosted by Ronald McDonald House Charities Curaçao (RMHC).

Under the theme “Compassionate Care – Understanding Trauma, Loss and the Strength in Vulnerability,” the conference explored how empathy and trauma-informed practices can transform the hospital experience for both patients and caregivers. Through practical tools and shared experiences, attendees explored how compassion and connection help families face health challenges with greater resilience.

At the start of the conference, a commemorative video was shared showing how RMHC’s advocacy, combined with the dedication of Curaçao Medical Center teams, has helped shape a more supportive, collaborative healthcare environment for the whole hospital. Together, RMHC and Curaçao Medical Center continue to elevate the standard of care for families with hospitalized children.

Through workshops and real-life stories shared by experts including Dr. Ecury, Rodney Stewart, Micha van de Vorst, Dr. Amii Steele, Yithza Davelaar, Darelene Matroos-Piar, and Kirti Daryanani, participants learned how to better recognize trauma, respond with empathy, and build resilience within families and care teams alike.

As RMHC continues its mission, the organization reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that that compassion remains at the heart of every child’s healing journey.
