Willemstad,
September 2nd, 2026
September is internationally recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness for children living with cancer.
In Curaçao, Ronald McDonald House Charities Curaçao (RMHC) and the Princess Wilhelmina Fund (PWF) have worked closely together for 15 years to support children with cancer and their families. RMHC provides support at the hospital, assists with preparations for treatments abroad, and continues to be present during follow-up care at the Curacao Medical Center. PWF offers psycho-social guidance through its social workers and organizes activities for children, their siblings, and families affected by cancer.
To commemorate this month and honor the children of Curaçao, RMHC and PWF with the support of Curacao Ports Authority, lit up the iconic Queen Emma Bridge in gold, the global symbol of Childhood Cancer Awareness.
Each light post is decorated with a flag telling personal stories of our childhood cancer patients here in Curacao and some inspirational quotes for support.
